Chatbot widget present but no Article 50 AI disclosure ('You are chatting with AI')

This check looks for a clear statement, shown as soon as a conversation starts, that a chatbot visitor is talking to AI rather than a person. A chatbot widget was found on this site, but no such disclosure was found. The EU AI Act's Article 50 begins enforcement on 2 August 2026, and undisclosed AI chat carries fines of up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover, whichever is larger. Beyond the legal risk, a visitor who realises after the fact that they were talking to a bot rather than a person tends to lose trust in the whole interaction. Your developer and legal team should configure the chat widget's welcome message to say something like 'Hi, I'm an AI assistant', and add a small 'AI' badge near the chat icon. Most platforms, including Intercom, Drift, HubSpot and Tidio, support this directly in their settings. Budget about an hour or two.
