Ad tracking pixels found on a page with clinical or medical content

This check looks at pages containing clinical or medical content, such as symptoms, treatments, or diagnoses, for the presence of behavioural advertising or session-recording trackers like Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or tools that record how visitors move on the page. On this site, a page with health-related content was found loading one or more of these trackers. Running ad pixels on health content pages is the same pattern US regulators have penalised other companies for in the past, and it's directly targeted by newer laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act and California's Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA). Standard consent scanners miss this because they check technical configuration, not what the page is actually about, so it's a gap most audits never surface. Your developer and marketing team should remove behavioural advertising pixels from any page discussing symptoms, conditions, treatments, or diagnoses, or at minimum gate them behind explicit, specific consent rather than the general cookie banner. This usually means adjusting the tag manager rules for a defined set of health-content pages, which is a targeted, same-day fix once the affected pages are identified.

Why this matters

Running ad pixels on health content pages is the same pattern US regulators have penalised other companies for in the past, and it's directly targeted by newer laws like Washington's My Health My Data Act and California's Confidentiality of Medical Information Act (CMIA). Standard consent scanners miss this because they check technical configuration, not what the page is actually about, so it's a gap most audits never surface.

How to fix it

Your developer and marketing team should remove behavioural advertising pixels from any page discussing symptoms, conditions, treatments, or diagnoses, or at minimum gate them behind explicit, specific consent rather than the general cookie banner. This usually means adjusting the tag manager rules for a defined set of health-content pages, which is a targeted, same-day fix once the affected pages are identified.
